Technology makes instruction easier, more efficient, engaging, fun, and allows our ideas and learning outcomes to be communicated about and shared with anyone we choose. Not only is it beneficial to teachers and students, it is also helpful to parents who can view student products or communicate with the teacher online or through emails. Our school is lucky to have great technology resources. It is just a matter of making the use of them a habit day to day. I think we are all moving in that direction nicely.

Technology is a great way to keep organized. A shared folder is an easy way to work with your coleagues to enhance the unit. Using a web page will enable students to find information and check requirements both in the classroom and at home.

The use of technology has many benefits in developing and implementing interdisciplinary units. For me, the benefits are three-fold:
1) TECHNOLOGY IS A POWERFUL TOOL allowing teachers and students the use of websites, blogs, graphing programs, and other stimulating activities.

2) SHARED INFORMATION. Technology allows teachers to consistently access similiar tools (programs, websites, email)at any moment. Teachers will then be more coordinated in reaching the "essential question". This is especially important when spanning grade levels.

3)ASSESSMENTS. Creating, implementing and analyzing data is made easier through technology. Teacher will have access to data, excel and word programs, and can share work with others.

-We do some of these things regularly, like emails and sharing a folder on the network.

-Things I'd like to implement: Online surveys
Answers to blog questions much like we are doing here (for those kids who might not speak up in class)
Learning to make a website for students to use.
Students making their own websites.

*Advantages of technology:
You can access it wherever there is an Internet connection, not just on certain computers. Teachers can work on it at home, and students that want to get ahead can do so.

Using inspirations today was a fabulous tool to map out an interdisciplinary unit...this is something I will continue to use with my students and for my own planning.
Having my plans save on the computer is wonderful when co-planning with my peers. We can send emails back and forth or share folders to help with communication when we can't find time to meet in person. Easy access!
Using technology in the classroom benefits not only the teacher it helps students obtain their grades, they can organize their own thoughts using Inspirations, Timeliner, etc. Students can share folders if they are working together.

Being a tech integrator, it will be easy to tranfer these ideas into my class... as they are already happening. We have shared folders, email distribution lists, Inspiration, and Openoffice (same as Word, Excel, and powerpoint). Having it on paper makes it easier for me to present the ideas to teachers and show them WHY it is important.
Benefits of technology---which also increase productivity---brainstorming can be recorded quiker and in a more organized manner, communication to many people at once is made possible through email, Portals make it easier to put many resources onto one page.. as well as webquests, and online calendars, timelines, and shared folders make it easy for everyone to see the imformation and use it at any time.

The use of technology increase student and teacher productivity because it makes tasks easier and more efficent.
For example, using software programs helps teachers brainstorm and record their ideas.
Teachers can easily share ideas through the use of shared folders where everyone can view other's plans and add to them. An e-mail distribution list can also be used for teachers to pose questions and answer them.
Teachers, as well as students, would benefit from the use of Word or excel checklists to check student progress. It allows all members of a team to see how well a particular student is doing in other areas.
